Sandwich chocolate.

One thing I had never seen before I moved here, was something called "sandwich chocolate". It's not like those spreads you can see everywhere, such as Nutella and similar stuff. No, this is firm chocolate in thin strips meant to be eaten on bread. I interrogated a Faroese friend of mine, and she said that it's very popular (which you can also tell by all the different brands sold in the supermarkets) and that's it most commonly eaten with butter beneath it, on bread. It's supposedly also very tasty on toast, since it will start to melt. I've tried it, but I think it feels a bit weird eating firm chocolate on bread. I think melted on toast will suit me better.

As I mentioned, there are some different brands, and this one has the prettiest package. Earlier I've only seen the milk chocolate one (which obviously isn't vegan) but when I saw this dark one today I had to buy it.

(Psst, I've been thinking about how to display my photos online, and settled with a blog, at least for now. So if you want to see some non-food related pictures, head over here!)

  1. Oh my! I used to eat those all the time pre-gan, the milk chocolate kind.. I've been on the look-out for vegan ones, but haven't been successful. Lucky you! :)

  2. I like your chocolate castle. We eat tablet chocolate on bread here, too. Ok, I don't, but some people do, but it's not sold in slices like that! Cute.

  3. We have something similar in Germany. I have never had it though. But now I wanna build a castle!

  4. I used to laugh at my coworker for eating this chocolate on bread (typically Danish tebirkes) every morning. It was only recently that I found some organic, dark ""sandwich chocolate" in a local Netto and tried it on warm toast myself. I found out I liked it quite a lot that way. ;)

  5. I've never heard of this, but i love how the chocolates look like little wafers. Also, I agree that the package is really beautiful! I think it sounds great on some toasty toast. Mmmmm.
